one • a falling-block groove • 124 bpm
four on the floor
stack the shapes and the stack plays itself.
the board is a step sequencer. each column is a step, the height of each column is a note, so the skyline you build is the melody. land a drop right on the beat and the next layer comes in: kick, open hat, clap, bass, chord stabs, a pad. drift off the beat or crowd the ceiling and layers slip away. clear a line and the drop lands on the next bar.
how to play: arrows or a and d to move, up or w to turn, down to nudge, space to drop, c or shift for deck b, p to pause. on a phone, swipe to move, tap to turn, flick down to drop, or use the buttons. relaxed mode slows the fall and lets the groove build on its own, if you would rather just watch it go.
sound starts only when you press start, and it starts quiet. it pauses itself when you look away.
two • magnetic sentences • a drafting table
words that lean together
pick a word up. bring it close to another. feel which ones want to stay.
every word has three magnets: its left edge, its right edge, and its halfway mark. words that read well together pull harder and click into place. words that do not, shrug. snap words side by side to make a line, set a word above or below to start a new one, and the lines stack into a little building of a poem.
how to play: drag a word, or tab to the field, pick one with enter, move it with the arrows, and press enter to set it down. a adds the chosen word to the end of your line, n starts a new line, u unsticks it. when the stack feels right, draft it in pencil and keep the drawing.
